Welcome to Essex
The historic hamlet of Essex has a classic New England public green complete with a colonial-style steeple in the town's center. The public transit system provides access to most parts of the locale. Downtown is characterized by excellent local restaurants and a low-key but vibrant local nightlife to meet up with friends and neighbors alike, all of which are buoyed by its continually growing local economy. With Burlington to the north and Montpelier to the south, a day trip is not out of the question on a bright sunny day, or if snow is your thing, a walk in the quiet, peaceful streets of Essex can be inspiring, invigorating, and relaxing. Montreal is just a three-hour's drive away.
Avid weekend players to scratch golfers take every opportunity to play on the courses around town, and can also enjoy other outdoor adventures, from hiking, boating, sailing, and a more leisurely kayak or canoe ride in the Summer months. Its proximity to ski resorts provides downhill and cross-country skiing as well as tubing and a half-pipe in the Winter on the short ride to Stowe Mountain Resort. To the west lies Lake Champlain, with its ample opportunities for recreational sailing, fishing, or just a pleasant day at the beach. With Mansfield State Park nearby as well as the Burlington International Airport, combined with the rustic charm of living in Essex, make it an inspiring place to call home.
