This is one of the quaintest downtowns you will see in the state. Located on Lake Champlain, Shelburne straddles the line between the stuff you want and the stuff you need. There are stores, and restaurants, and a bustling school, and all the things you need for convenience in life, but there is a personality here.
There’s a weekly farmer’s market, Little League behind the police station, a Halloween parade every year, and a couple maple sugarhouses (Palmer’s Sugarhouse, Shelburne Sugarworks). There is the Shelburne Country Store (the maple creemee here is something you must have immediately upon arrival), and after you “unsticky” yourself, The Flying Pig bookstore is a world-class independent bookseller right in the middle of town.
There are residential neighborhoods of all prices and sizes, from condos to senior living housing. For a small town, Shelburne has a vibrance that comes from its diversity, and is one of the wealthiest communities in the country. Just about seven miles from Burlington, it offers a quick commute.
Shelburne Museum is world-renowned for its Americana collection and hosts popular musical acts (David Byrne, Chris Stapleton, Brandi Carlisle) for outdoor concerts at sunset in the summer. Shelburne Farms is a model for sustainable farming and has an inn with the best cocktails and breakfast you will find in the state.
